How it works
How it heats a room
We fit air-to-air reverse-cycle split systems in ordinary houses. There is a wall-mounted unit inside, a unit outside, and the same appliance cools the room in summer and heats it in winter.
It works by taking warmth out of the outside air and moving it into the room, which is why it is also called an air-to-air heat pump.
The room warms up quickly, because the unit is blowing warm air straight into it rather than heating a radiator and waiting for the room to catch up.
Where it helps
The rooms it suits
Conservatories
By November it is the coldest room in the house. One unit, high on the wall, puts heat back in quickly, without waiting for the boiler to reach a room at the far end of the system.
Garden rooms
A separate building with no heating of its own. A split system heats and cools the room on its own, with nothing running in the house.
Loft rooms
An indoor unit mounted high on the wall deals with summer heat and does winter heating with the same box.
Home offices
One room in use all day while the house sits empty. The unit warms that room on its own, without touching the house heating.
The other side of it
What it will not do
-
Heat the whole house from one unit
One indoor unit deals with one room, or one open-plan space. It will not push warmth round a corner and up a staircase.
-
Fix your boiler or radiators
It works on its own, without touching the house heating. If your radiators have stopped working, this is not the fix.
-
Go in without an outdoor unit
There has to be a box on an outside wall or on the ground. At the survey we work out where it can go.
Questions
Questions people ask
Can air conditioning heat a room?
Yes. The same appliance cools the room in summer and heats it in winter, which is what makes it worth putting in.
Is it the same as an air-to-air heat pump?
Yes. The systems we fit are air-to-air reverse-cycle split systems, which is what an air-to-air heat pump is.
Will it heat my whole house?
No. One indoor unit deals with one room, or one open-plan space.
What does it cost?
There is no standard price, because no two rooms are the same. We look at the room and give you an itemised quote, written line by line: equipment, materials and labour.
Got a room like that?
The survey is free and there is nothing to pay until you have decided.
